A recent report by Croma, the Tata Group-owned retail chain, has revealed interesting insights about iPhone buyers in India ahead of the launch of Apple’s next-generation models at the upcoming “Awe Dropping” event.
Non-Pro Models Dominate Sales
According to the study analyzing iPhone sales between September 2024 and August 2025, Indian consumers overwhelmingly favor non-Pro iPhones. Non-Pro models accounted for 86% of total sales, while Pro models contributed only 14%. Smaller phones like the iPhone 16, 16 Pro, and 16e represented 87% of sales, whereas larger devices such as iPhone 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max were limited to just 12.5%.
Croma spokesperson noted, “Indian iPhone buyers are savvy and pragmatic. They prioritize the seamless iPhone experience while making practical choices, focusing on value and trusted ecosystem benefits.”
Storage Preferences
When it comes to storage, practicality is key. The 128GB variant was the most popular, making up 75% of purchases, followed by 256GB at 24.4%. Premium storage options like 512GB and 1TB were chosen by less than 1% of buyers, highlighting that most users prefer sufficient storage for daily use rather than high-capacity models.
Popular Colours and Upgrade Trends
Classic colours remain popular, with Black chosen by 26.2%, Blue by 23.8%, and White by 20.2% of buyers. The report also highlighted a strong upgrade culture: 20.5% of customers exchanged older iPhones for newer models. Additionally, adoption of AppleCare protection reached 17%, showing growing awareness of device security.
Conclusion
The Croma report paints a clear picture of Indian iPhone buyers: they are value-conscious yet loyal, preferring non-Pro models, 128GB storage, and classic colours, while actively upgrading within Apple’s ecosystem. These trends are expected to influence Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 launch strategy in India.
