Apple is reportedly preparing a major surprise for iPhone 16 users with the upcoming iOS 26 update. According to reports, the new update will bring a charging upgrade, allowing faster wireless charging using third-party Qi2-certified chargers. The feature has already been spotted in the iOS 26 beta.
Faster Wireless Charging with Qi 2.2 Support
The iOS 26 beta reveals that the iPhone 16 series will now support Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard. This means that all iPhone 16 models can charge at 25W using compatible third-party Qi2 chargers. Previously, users needed Apple’s MagSafe charger for fast wireless charging.
Before this update, third-party chargers offered only 15W charging speed, but iOS 26 will allow faster wireless charging, giving iPhone 16 owners more flexibility and convenience.
iPhone 17 Series May Also Benefit
The upcoming iPhone 17 series may also support the Qi2.2 standard with 25W wireless charging. Some reports suggest that Apple could even introduce 50W wireless charging in the new models, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
iOS 26 Release Timeline
Apple is expected to launch iOS 26 alongside the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. The official launch event is likely to take place on September 9, after which the update will roll out for older devices, including the iPhone 16.
