Nothing has officially unveiled Nothing OS 4.0, its latest Android 16-based custom interface. Building on its signature minimalist design, this update focuses on a cleaner, more functional user experience while introducing several visual and performance improvements.
Redesigned Quick Settings and Dark Mode
One of the first things users will notice is the redesigned Quick Settings toggle. The new layout is less cluttered, with wider tiles for certain items, making everyday adjustments faster and more intuitive. The dark mode has also been updated with improved contrast, offering a sleeker, more visually appealing look across system apps. The brightness slider is now more responsive, and additional Always-on Display (AOD) options give users more flexibility in customizing their lock screen.
Enhanced Multitasking and App Performance
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces support for two floating app icons, enabling quicker multitasking and seamless switching between apps. A new app optimization feature ensures smoother and faster app launches, improving overall performance. The updated camera app interface and smarter gallery app include additional controls, presets, and a more intuitive layout, making photography and media management simpler.
AI Dashboard and User Insights
A new AI dashboard has been added to track and manage AI usage across the system, providing insights into how AI features are being utilized and making it easier for users to optimize their device experience.
Release Timeline
The open beta for Nothing OS 4.0 is expected soon. The Nothing Phone (3) will be the first device to receive the update, followed by older Nothing and CMF devices. The Phone (1) will not be supported, as it has reached the end of its software lifecycle.
Overall, Nothing OS 4.0 aims to combine aesthetic simplicity with functional upgrades, providing users with a more responsive, customizable, and enjoyable smartphone experience.
