Tecno Mobiles India CEO Arijeet Talapatra believes that the newly launched Pova Slim 5G will help make ultra-thin smartphone designs more mainstream and accessible to Indian consumers.
Tecno Pova Slim 5G: Redefining Affordable Smartphones
The Tecno Pova Slim 5G is an innovative take on affordable smartphones, measuring just 5.95mm in thickness and weighing only 156 grams. This move highlights Tecno’s commitment to offering slim, lightweight devices without compromising on performance.
Although thinness has never been heavily marketed as a key feature, smartphone brands are now exploring whether consumers prefer ultra-slim devices. The trend is catching on, with brands like Samsung, Huawei, Honor, and Oppo launching slim phones, often at a premium price point, such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
Slim Design vs. Heavy Batteries
Talapatra points out that modern smartphones increasingly look similar, with minor differences in sides, camera placement, or color. “Everyone talks about the camera, RAM, and display,” he says, emphasizing the need for distinctive designs.
Consumers, he adds, prefer phones that are not heavy. Foldable devices, despite their novelty, did not meet expectations because secondary screens are used only about 20% of the time. “Even a lightweight foldable phone is still much heavier than a regular device,” Talapatra explains.
The Future of Slim Smartphones
Tecno’s strategy focuses on providing high-performing, thin devices that offer convenience without compromising on essential features. The Pova Slim 5G represents the brand’s attempt to make slim phones accessible to the mass market, bridging the gap between innovation and affordability.
